Jessica Simpson is embarking on a not-so-public affair – with singer-songwriter John Mayer, People has learned.

Reports are stating that Simpson has finally taken the first step to re-enter the dating scene, which would make John a rebound guy, wouldn't it?

I'm sorry I just can't see Jessica with John Mayer.

Call it superficial if you like, but that woman can have any guy on the planet and she chooses him?

No offense to John of course, but he's just not what I picture Jessica Simpson with.  In fact, I felt that Nick was a bit beneath her as well.

Anyone else agree?
